Traditional British pub restaurant

The Toby Carvery Castle Bromwich in Birmingham, England, is a classic British pub and restaurant dedicated to the tradition of carvery. As part of the widely recognized Toby Carvery chain, which brands itself as the "Home of the Roast," this establishment has secured a strong foothold in the area, attracting a diverse clientele—from families and friends to regulars—who appreciate the taste of a perfectly prepared roast and the cozy pub atmosphere. It offers a reliable option for a hearty meal, whether on weekends or weekdays, combining British heritage with an accessible, modern approach.

Family-friendly restaurant with carvery

The decor is typical of a traditional pub: a red brick building greets guests with a warm, inviting interior that blends rustic wooden furniture with a relaxed ambiance. Noteworthy is the spacious beer garden, which is a popular choice in nice weather and can also be enjoyed on cooler days thanks to heated areas. Inside, the open carvery counter catches the eye, where meat is freshly carved before the guests—an detail that adds an authentic touch to the experience. The restaurant is family-friendly, with amenities such as high chairs and a menu that appeals to children, while the option to reserve tables online makes the visit even more convenient.

Authentic British roast experience

Culinary-wise, the Toby Carvery Castle Bromwich represents the classic British roast, prepared with great care. The centerpiece is the carvery area, where succulent meats like tender roast beef or spicy turkey are freshly sliced, accompanied by handmade Yorkshire puddings served light and fluffy. The roast potatoes, hand-scraped for extra crispiness, are a highlight and come with a rich gravy, often praised as an indispensable part of the dish. For a hearty alternative, the macaroni cheese is creamy and satisfying. Vegetarians will find a tasty option in the vegetable roast, served with a melted camembert core, creatively enhancing the traditional experience. To finish, the sticky toffee pudding, a warm, sweet dessert with toffee sauce, rounds off the visit perfectly.

Popular breakfast buffet in Birmingham

In addition to the carvery offerings, there is a popular breakfast buffet featuring classics like sausages, bacon, and hash browns, particularly appreciated by guests looking to start their day with a substantial meal. The drinks menu offers a solid selection of local beers, wines, and non-alcoholic options that complement the food well. The ability to order via an app streamlines the process and makes the experience even more relaxed, especially during busy times.

Cozy atmosphere in beer garden

Service is often described as friendly and efficient, with staff keen to ensure guests have a pleasant stay. The employees at the carvery counter are trained to cater to individual requests and contribute to the positive atmosphere with their helpful nature. While there may be short wait times on busy days like Sundays, the process generally runs smoothly, and the team ensures guests leave satisfied.

Hannah was an amazing server, really bright and bubbly, she’s the reason this got 5 stars. The food could have been better for a busy Friday evening, the chefs at the counter the blonde one was really friendly and apologetic about the lack of said food, but the rest, quite thoughtless, they need to prepare takeaway food behind the counter rather than infront and delaying the priority in store customers who are waiting to scoop their own mashed potato! Priority are people who eat in not eat out! Thank you to Hannah for making the experience better, as I’ve been a customer here for years when living in Birmingham and now having to travel 40 minutes to get here, this is the first night i have ever been disappointed with the food NOT THE SERVICE.

Server nowhere to be seen after we sat down and waited ages. Eventually went by ourselves to get our food. Food service slow food choice and quality was ok not fantastic. Few empty serving dishes. After eating nain meal server eventually came for plates, asked if we wanted desert. Yes please and we ordered. We waited at least half an hour. Servers dashing here n there but no sign of our deserts. Our server kept chatting to another by the till area. We eventually asked where our desert was to be told ill check. Its coming out next sorry bout wait. Well it didn't cone out next. We waited another 10 15 minutes and was about to give up and leave. Deserts eventually came out. I'd ordered treacle sponge with custard. The song was hard and custard was only warm. As if they'd been sat waiting on side. Not a very pleasurable experience . Won't be returning to this particular toby. Very unorganised. Staff not attentive to their tables.

Came in for a carvery at 5pm Monday. The carver Brian was a delight. service with a smile at its best. the portion of meat was absolutely fantastic and quality of the meat was outstanding, the line chef Danielle has served up fresh steaming hot veg to the best quality. Throughly enjoyed my meal. Amazing value for money. my waitress Hannah brings the perfect friendly atmosphere and is extremely attentive and helpful. Love this place. The only bad thing would be my Yorkshire pudding but everyone has their own preference! Would recommend this place to I everyone and would 1000% eat again.

Rating based on most recent visit for breakfast. Sausages All burnt when sausages restocked all burnt again. Hash browns tasteless and soggy. Beans very watery and to sweet. Had to wait ages at the bar to pay for breakfast and be given cutlery and cups. When toby carvery get the breakfasts right they are great but too often these days the quality has really dropped. Burnt sausages are the norm and you cannot taste them. Will not recommend this place unless you like your sausages burnt. In future I will check out the food quality before I pay.

I had a terrible experience at Toby Carvery the potatoes were frozen and undercooked i did complain and wanted to talk to the chef and they did not want to come out and talk to me, while this is mandatory if a person thinks there food is not fit to eat which was really disappointing. To make matters worse, my mother found a hair in her food, which was absolutely disgusting she didn’t even want to complain about it as she knew it would of made her vomit if she mentioned it. On top of that, the food was all lukewarm, making it clear that it had been sitting out for too long. Overall, it was an unpleasant experience, and I won’t be returning.
